4'-METHYLBIPHENYL-4-CARBOXYLIC ACID Usage And Synthesis

Uses

4’-Methylbiphenyl-2-carboxylic Acid is used in the synthesis of angiotensin II receptor antagonists used as potent orally active

antihypertensives.

The 4'-methyl-biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid exhibits the characteristic absorption bands of COOH and CH, groups. Photoproduct analysis, carried out by GC-MS, ETIR and GC-FTIR confirm three successive oxidation states of methyl suhstituents such as alcohol, aldehyde and carboxylic acids.

4'-Methylbiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid, also known as 4-METHYL-1,1-BIPHENYL-4-CARBOXYLIC ACID; by its CAS number 720-73-0, is a white crystalline solid. It is an organic compoundcomposed of a benzene ring with three methyl substituents and a carboxylic acid group.

The melting point of 4'-methylbiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid 720-73-0 is 252-253 °C, and its boiling point is 381.4 ±21.0 °C. Its density is 1.156 ± 0.06 g/cm3. The pKa of the compound is 4.23 ± 0.10.

4'-Methylbiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid 720-73-0 is used in the synthesis of angiotensin II receptor antagonists, which are potent orally active antihypertensives.
